Reebok Zig Slash Energy for John Wall’s Feet

Reebok Zig Slash White/Instinct Blue/Minnesota Tan - John Wall Home

In a league dominated by exceptional point guards such as Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo and Steve Nash, John Wall took hold of the basketball world last June when he was selected as the number 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft.  As a standout freshman guard playing under the tutelage of coach John Calipari, Wall dazzled and dashed his way to the top spot by displaying remarkable athleticism, talent, skill and poise under the national spotlight.  He garnered so much hype and attention that it was a no-brainer for him to leave UK after only one year of collegiate ball.

While at Kentucky, Wall was suited and booted by Nike, the school’s athletic equipment provider, and it was looking like he’d continue his relationship with the company as a pro.  However, jumping ahead of big guns such as Nike and adidas was Reebok.  Having developed their new Zig Tech collection of sneakers for athletes of various sports, Reebok obviously did something incredibly right in managing to lure John Wall with their basketball specialty, the Reebok Zig Slash model.  Arguably their biggest NBA star since Allen Iverson, Wall is well on his way to not only making a name for himself on the court, but also in the sneaker world.

I'll teach you how to Dougie.

Just to be clear though, the Reebok Zig Slash basketball kicks are not the beginning of a personal signature line for Wall. They are merely being introduced to the world with him as the leading face.  Still, these sneakers do have something unique to offer in case that wasn’t apparent by the very unorthodox design. Constructed of a light, breathable synthetic and mesh upper, the main plug behind the shoe is that it fires energy back to your feet – hence, the slogan, “The energy drink for your feet”.

The zig zag design of the midsole is meant to absorb the shock of every heel strike and essentially return that energy along your foot to enhance movement on the court.  The midsole is also built with a full-length bootie for added support and comfort.  You’ll also find a herringbone traction pattern for secure grip.  What’s funny to me about this Zig Slash model is that the upper resembles the Nike Zoom Kobe III in terms of the exposed mesh lining, but this shoe definitely stands out in it’s own right.

John Wall is going head to head with Blake Griffin of the L.A. Clippers this year for Rookie of the Year and by all accounts, it will ultimately come down to them. The Washington Wizards are also in a more favorable position to make a hard push for that eighth seed in the East so it will be exciting to watch how Wall will try to make that jump to front of the 2010-2011 rookie class and seize ROY.

Oh and by the way, Wall had 29 pts, 13 dimes and 9 steals yesterday against the 76ers.  Not bad at all for a 20-year old rookie playing as the face of the franchise.
