With Adidas’ signature athlete, Derrick Rose, sitting out another year, Adidas has been aggressive in pursuing big names. At the end of last year, they were able to pry away an unhappy Kanye West from their powerhouse rival, Nike.
Today, Pharrell Williams is most definitely a happy person. It is official; a partnership between the musician and the German sports brand is finalized. The musician has a deal that will include a sneaker line to compliment the apparel. Adidas has also agreed to work with Bionic Yarn. Williams has been supporting Bionic Yarn, which is an Eco-friendly material made up of plastic debris from the oceans and shores. The collaboration between Adidas Originals and Williams is expected to release in the Summer of 2014.
As Pharrell is currently in collaboration with the Japanese Brand Uniqlo, his past projects include his own clothing brand: Billionaire Boys Club and ICE CREAM. Williams joins a star studded lineup in Adidas with: A Bathing Ape creator Nigo and fashion connoisseur Kanye West. Pharrell’s relationship with Nigo isn’t newly established as they are both cofounders of the Billionaire Boys Club.
