History
Michael Jordan had been drafted by the Chicago Bulls third overall in the 1984 draft. Nike took a chance on Jordan and gave him his own line of sneakers. The Air Jordan 1 was unveiled in 1985 and Jordan rocked them on his way to earning Rookie of the Year honors. The NBA was not too fond of the original Air Jordan 1, they preferred the players to wear white shoes, but Nike and Jordan had other ideas. The original Air Jordan 1 was mainly black and red, which matched the Chicago Bulls team colors. Commissioner David Stern decided to fine Michael Jordan $5,000 every time he decided to wear them. That was not a problem for Nike, they happily paid the tab and welcomed all the publicity. Nike would go on to produce many more colorways and the Air Jordan 1 can be seen in the Nike SB and many more Nike products. The Air Jordan 1 was the one that started it all and it continues to be a hot sneaker to this day.
