Of all the colorways that we’ve seen for both the Nike Zoom Kobe IV and Zoom Kobe V, there seems to be that one pair that Kobe consistently gravitates towards more than others. The ‘Del Sol’ colorway was a monstrous hit with the IV and a favorite amongst many of the Mamba’s faithful fans. We all watched Kobe put on a one man Broadway show at the Garden scoring 61 points in February of 2009, literally two days after Andrew Bynum had suffered his second knee injury in as many years. So you could say that this colorway is quite special without a doubt.
This season, Kobe has been rocking the ‘Del Sol’ the majority of the time since Nike delivered the kicks to him and his teammates. This is actually my personal favorite colorway of the Kobe IV and V as it just has an overall clean looking upper and color scheme.
Accommodating the black upper are a few minor variations that distinguishes the updated version from its predecessor. The midsole and external heel cap are all white, decked out with speckles of black paint scattered mostly on the heel side. Nike also seems to have opted for simplicity and maintained a truer yellow throughout as opposed to the more golden trim that was featured on the IV. We can see this subtle distinction with the Swoosh border and Kobe’s signature that rests on the heel cap. The Sheath logo has remained yellow and the tongue has been kept white as well. The finishing touch comes to us in the form of white laces that are also dotted with black specks, which only makes me wonder if this version will release with additional yellow laces as was the case with the IV.
As I said earlier, the Mamba has been gaming with this colorway quite a bit in the last two seasons and while I’m sure there are a few special sets we are going to see during the playoffs, there is no doubt in my mind that Kobe has a huge affinity for these particular kicks. Hopefully, this colorway will be a general release like the ZKB IV. The official release date for the Zoom Kobe V ‘Del Sol’ is still under wraps, but we will definitely post it once it is made public. I can’t wait!
