Championship Footwear: Nike Zoom Kobe V Blowout Special Part III

Nike Zoom Kobe V 'Lower Merion'

High School is a crucial time for anyone as it’s the point in a young person’s life when they decide and learn a lot about themselves. Kobe Bryant was never an exception to this rule.

Playing for Lower Merion High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Mamba had a knock-out career that saw him reach the pinnacle of both individual and team honors in his senior year (Naismith High School Player of the Year; Gatorade Men’s National Basketball Player of the Year; McDonald’s All-American; Pennsylvania State Basketball Championship).

During his senior season, Kobe averaged a wicked 30.8 ppg, 12 rpg, 6.5 apg, 4.0 steals, and 3.8 blocks while guiding his team to a 31-3 record.

Before taking singer Brandy to his senior prom, Kobe began his career-long bout with haters and critics by opting to take his game to the NBA rather than giving the NCAA level a go, becoming only the sixth player in NBA history (at the time in 1996) to do so. Bear in mind that the Mamba literally had his pick of any school and he’s made no secrets about the fact that if he had chosen to attend a university, Duke always sat at the top of the list.

Born to ball.

For any player that makes the jump straight to the pros, their high school ultimately becomes their college alma mater of sorts, especially since it’s the last institution that they play for prior to the NBA. With the aid of Nike, Kobe was able to honor Lower Merion by supplying the Boy’s Basketball team with their own special colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe V.

The ‘Lower Merion’ colorway is decked out in silver and maroon with a slight touch of white. Maroon envelops the Swoosh logo, forefoot skin, forefoot midsole, the laces (dotted with silver specks), the Sheath and inner lining. Silver douses the side panels, heel cap/mesh, tongue and toe box while white accents the heel end of the midsole. All in all, this edition is probably one of the more well-devised specialty colorways of the Kobe V sneaker.

It’s one thing to receive a free pair of the ZKB V, but from the Lower Merion basketball team’s point of view, this surely had to make the entire year feel like Christmas because you can bet that kicks weren’t the only thing Nike provided the team with. This is the alma mater of the best player on the planet we’re talking about after all.
