Coming off a regular season in which he reigned supreme as the scoring champion, Kevin Durant showed the world this past summer that he is a force to be reckoned with and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. He’s off to a slower start this year compared to last, but his team is still five games over .500 at 11-6 and only getting better with the explosive play of Durant’s running mate, Russell Westbrook.
Given the fact that the OKC Thunder are a very young team with all the potential in the world and that Durant is signed for the long haul, we will be seeing the evolution and growth of the KD signature sneaker line as well. The Nike Zoom KD III, which was recently released, is the current gem of his line.
The upper is constructed in a combination of black leather with a hard mesh side panel and metallic Flywire housing panel. The high-tip tongue has the “d” in “kd” punched out while photo blue accents dress the upper through the lining, Swoosh border, Flywire panel, medial lace panel and circles on the heel that read KD35 in the shape of a diamond. The rest of the shoe is black with a very slight touch of orange on the Flywire panel. The forefoot comes with a Zoom air unit installed within the Phylon midsole, which both combine to offer enhanced stability, quickness and agility on the court. The outsole is solid rubber with a traditional herringbone traction pattern for top tier grip.
Many people tabbed Kevin Durant as the regular season MVP for this year, but we will have to wait and see how far he can take the Thunder in the West and how much more his game will grow. However, there is no question that he is a Top 3 candidate and he’s off to a great start in his marriage with Nike.
