First Impression: Adidas ZX Flux “Infrared”

I gotta say…Adidas are killing it as of late. With summer rapidly approaching and everyone wanting to show off bright, stylish kicks, Adidas has recently launched a new model to the ZX family, The Adidas ZX Flux. The sneaker is a lifestyle model for casual wear with influence from the Adidas Running line and looks to be Nike’s competitor for the Roshe Run.

Unlike the Roshe Run, the materials on the ZX Flux are much better quality in my opinion and have a more premium feel unlike the soft, flimsy mesh what we’ve seen on the Roshes. Adidas decided to look at their past ZX models and strip away all unnecessary panels and layers and to simply have the upper as a one piece seamless mesh with some rubber overlays. Sometimes simple is better and in this case you can’t go wrong. These are so dope. The mesh itself is fantastic quality, it feels soft and flexible yet it still has structure and it is quite thick in comparison to the Roshe and it feels like a thick fitted sock to be honest. The mesh is supported by an external plastic heel cup, which provides excellent stability and heel lockdown. Something the Roshe Run also didn’t feature. in addition to the heel cup there are plastic rubber overlays creating the three stripes along the lateral and medial sides of the shoe to provide the aesthetic appeal and for some midfoot support.

The tongue of the ZX Flux is nicely padded with a stitched pattern on the top adding a nice touch. The laces are flat laces, which are durable and have plastic eyelets around each lace hole so you don’t tear through the mesh. The internal lining is what feels like a ballistic mesh and it sculpts very nicely along the ankle and the heel providing excellent fit and comfort.

The outsole of the shoe is composed of a rubber compound and foa cushioning set up with a torsion support system (Thin TPU shank). The shoe feels very stable and is extremely comfortable to wear. I actually run in these and these are excellent I must say. Priced at $90 these things are ridiculous and in comparison to the Roshes, these beat them. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Roshes with their sleek design, plush cushioning and versatility with outfits but these also have the versatility, comfort but just better quality materials for the same price. For the summer, these are straight heat, probably one of the hottest models that will release this year. Definitely going to pick up another pair when I get the chance but props to Adidas man, these and the Boost sneakers… Nike better watch out!
