Nike Makers Session Day 2 Experience at Makers H.Q.

The NBA’s All-Star Weekend is more than just the Dunk Contest, Three-Point Contest and basketball game comprised of today’s best players. It’s a flurry of opportunities for the culture, fashion, music, and entertainment. The pop-up shops, installations, club events, parties, and concerts are only a few highlighted events around the city. Nike scooped up a beautiful location in the Arts District to host their events.

On day 2 of the Makers H.Q. at 555 Mateo Street pop-up, we made our way to the venue in the late afternoon. Coincidentally, Nike tweeted about the availability of the Camo version of the Protro Kobe 1s. The line was hyped and after a few hours in line, those who had wristbands purchased the footwear.

Inside the space, consumers made their way around the Makers Court (full length basketball court), Makers Retail Experience (exclusive product shopping), and Makers Space (90/10 customization). For the gamers, 2K18 was on hand to get some digital runs in.

For those unaware of the 90/10 pack, five models were released in a neutral palette with the concept of finishing them off to your desire. Each shoe came with pins, stencils, and patches. From Nike News:

90/10 PACK
Nike considers footwear a canvas for self-expression, so each design of the latest take on Nike icons (including the Special Field Air Force 1 Hi, Air More Money, Vandal Hi Supreme, Air Force 1 Low and Huarache) in this collection is 90-percent completed. The final 10 percent is left to the wearer’s imagination thanks to a white-based canvas upper that allows for customization in a multitude of ways.

At 5PM, the Makers Session kicked off as Pigalle owner, Stéphane Ashpool took stage. He spoke on being independent and sticking to your goals even if the road gets bumpy. From there, the creators were off to grab whatever they wanted to slap onto their shoes. We saw Benassi slides, Air Force 1 Lows, Vandal Highs and the Huaraches get customized to name a few.

Working with a pair of all white Air Force lows, we got down to business. Each station was supplied laces, rivets, Swooshes, patches, and markers to name a few materials. While working on these kicks, Bella Hadid,  Karl-Anthony Towns, and Giannis Antetokounmpo made appearances to get their creativity on. Before those stars stepped in, Draymond Green also dabbled with a pair of Air Forces.

Giannis blew our mind when he showed up in a fourth (unreleased) colorway of the Undftd x Nike Zoom Kobe 1 Protros. The upper was comprised of a green camo print. The Makers H.Q. is open to the public today from 10AM-5PM. Make sure you stop by before its gone, you’ll never know who will show up!
