As we get more updates concerning the NBA lockout, it appears that the owners and players are drifting further apart, which is extremely discouraging considering how wide the gap was to begin with.  Negotiations have pushed both sides to unite even stronger within their respective groups and while it may seem ludicrous, the possibility of not having any NBA basketball in 2011-2012 is becoming more of a dreary possibility.

Nikeand adidas, the two major players in all things related to basketball products, whether it be shoes, jerseys, or training gear, will undoubtedly suffer consequences stemming from a year without any NBA games.  Nike has Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Kevin Durant as their signature players while adidas’ two primary superstars are Derrick Rose (reigning MVP) and Dwight Howard (three-time Defensive Player of the Year).

Jordan Brand, owned by Nike, has Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul.  Basically, the game’s very best are the face of the two sports equipment juggernauts, but without any games, there will essentially be no grounds for creative marketing or platforms for sales spikes.
